Beats and Bites??

Hey everyone,

I've been DJ'ing at various sushi bars around town for a little over a year now. I am contemplating discontinuing my current gig. Why you ask? Well, first off, nobody dances. That's not that big a deal though because I'm not really playing "dance" music. Another reason, my equipment smells like unagi for a couple days after my gig. And lastly, nobody seems to care that I'm there.

What do you think about the DJ-and-Sushi combo?

At "Avenue A Sushi" in NYC, they have a DJ and dance floor in the front, and the sushi bar in back. Perhaps there would be more interest if there was actually a place to dance (?) Just a thought.

I'm way in favor of good, not-too-loud music being played while I eat. I think you should consider your role to make people's dining experiences positive; I kinda doubt there's any place in town set up for serious dancing, and even if you would dancing and sushi is not a natural combo for most. Good music, on the other hand, that enhances the meal without being too loud for conversation, is a big plus for me. I say keep it up!

keep it up man. i love going to pango's and finding that they've got a dj or a small jazz group droppin' some good tunes on the joint. great for the ambience : )
