Sushi Sake: a great place to eat

Body:

hi all,
i just want to pass along my opinion on the restaurant, Sushi Sake. i've eaten at most every austin sushi place and i'll have to say Sushi Sake is one of the best for the price. the quality is consistant, prices are moderate, atmosphere is subdued (not cheesy--is that Ella F. singing in the background), and the shrimp tempura is great! in short, you can count on a great meal and not spend a small fortune.
cheers!

I agree completely! I have been to just about every sushi bar in town and none have impressed me as much as SushiSake. The sushi is just as good as anywhere I've been, but the service is much better. I know we are in Austin and we are supposed to be weird, but I like it better when my server is actually from Japan...not a tattooed freak. Nothing wrong with a tattooed freak - great for Emo's - just not right for a sushi place.

Sushi Sake has failed 2 of their last 3 inspections. The last time i ate there the food and service were great, but 30 minutes later i was sick and in the bathroom. From the KXAN health report from 4-1-04: Sushi Sake on Research didn't fare well either with a 64 on the random visit. The inspector found: Sushi at 70 degrees A very dirty ice bin lid with stagnant water draining into to a bin of ice for customers And the inside of the ice machine was quote "very dirty."

to the poster who wrote: "but I like it better when my server is actually from Japan...not a tattooed freak." it is important to NOT assume people are from japan or any country without asking them. many servers at sushi sake are from taiwan and other countries but you could ask and find out for yourself. that doesn't make any difference to me though. sushi sake service is just fine and i'm most impressed, again, with the fish and low-key atmosphere. i can appreciate a server from any country as long as they are polite and efficient.
