Beluga Japanese Restaurant

Body:

I went to Beluga Japanese Restaurant up in Round Rock (on Louis Henna, near the border to Pflugerville) for lunch to try out the "2 for 1 Sushi Lunch Special, Free Large Hot Sake with Dinner". I was pretty impressed with the place and 2 for 1 sushi was good, but it does not apply to the rolls. Apparently on Saturday Nights, they are promoting and all you can eat sushi special. I didn't inquire for how much, but I think I might try it this Saturday.

Try this new sushi place in Round Rock of I-35 across from dell campus- Beluga. This location used to be Tanoshii and Blue Fin. Very different with selected entrees and very creative rolls. Every plate is a presentation!!! One of The things i like about the place is that it feels like American bistro and it is very consistent. i eat sushi all the time. i used to follow the chefs and used to be exited about unusually good service... I have changed with the industry. You don’t go to the restaurant because they have good service. You go to the restaurant mainly to eat and experience something new and unusual. Every Restaurant is expected to have good service, ambiance, management, restrooms … I go to the restaurant and get few things i like, or bring a table of 14 and show them those few things i like and get the same service and item every time !!!Some daily specials are great a little conversation with servers about current events or movies when I am by my self, full wine list creative martinis and ... Just the way restaurant should be. Some of my favorites at Beluga... Ahi Tower, Crunch Roll, Bada-Bing roll, Blue Goose. They also stock Blue Fin Tuna regularly. Very good vibe would recommend for people up north. Beluga is an eatery and has great value dishes. Good for larger parties. My Bday was at Beluga. My parents coming to visit was at Beluga. (My dad does not eat sushi and he went crazy over Blue Goose). Its just something comfortable about the place. Give it a try !

Whatever you do, don't do the all you can eat special. I thought $34.00 was rather pricey but it might have been worth it. I tell you what though, I wouldn't have eaten $7.00 worth of that fish... it was slimey, off, and wholey unappetizing. The "special" was I think just a way for them to dump their rotting fish off on us. The service was snotty and intrusive and the fish was just... just terrible. Yeeech! I am never going back.

Do you have any recommendations on sushi San Diego restaurants? I want to find one locally, I tried even the local directory search but and there was no information on that. Maybe some of you guys know from your own experiences. Thanks!

Thanks for information. I've never been there but I'd love to visit it. Not long ago I learned to make sushi myself. I was very glad because of it. It is so pleasant.

We went for the all you can eat sushi a couple months back. We were very happy with it. The sushi was fresh and the service was pretty good. We got one of the back rooms, and let our kids go wild. So that was a plus. We went back a few weeks later, and got the same room, but the experience wasn't so great. The sushi was still great, but it was too slow... we had finished a couple drinks before our first wave of sushi came out. This was after the mandatory appetizer, which was tasty, but we'd rather just jump right into the sushi. Anyways, we were a little disappointed the second time because of the slowness.

Saturday Night Sushi @ Beluga is 35per person + tax & tip - sake included. Rules apply - all at table must buy in. try the volcano roll for something completely different.

Worst service?  I didn't find that at all.  My finacee and I went there a couple weeks ago.  We actually didn't know about the all you can eat sushi special, so we were pleasantly surprised.  Our waitress was very nice, and our food arrived promptly. As far as the sushi, it was pretty good, especially for the price.  I prefer our standard haunt, Origami, but if money's tight, or you feel like something different, then Beluga is a great alternative.  (Also, the gelato place right next door is also pretty damn tasty.)

This place was so nice. ....I cannot belive that something like that can be build on the inside of the normal shopping mall. It is unusually loud for a Japanese restaurant. It has Los Angeles Flaver to it. The food is also great. It was very fresh and the presentation was great. I couldn't complain anything. I highly recommand this place.
