Mizu, in Lakeway

Body:

We went to Mizu tonite. They just opened and are working out some kinks. The food was great, we ordered mostly rolls. They have some rolls that I have not seen before and I have been everywhere in Austin. The service was sub par. It took an hour and a half to finish. It is a small space but has a great atmosphere. Finally, we get a quality sushi spot in Lakeway or by Lake Travis.

Presentation: 8/10 Sushi Taste: 7/10 Location atmosphere: 6/10 Service: 9/10 Price: 5/10 High Sushi's are very tiny, so if you are hungry go somewhere else.

These reviews are VERY dated. Mizu is located in a multi-million dollar building by Steiner Ranch now, and is a completely different establishment. Possibly one of the best sushi bars I have ever been to, beyond that the ambiance is phenomenal.

I just read reviews for Mizu and they are all old! The new Mizu is THE PLACE to go for sushi, Japanese steak, pool, and the great view of the hill country! The fabulous Mizu Blood Orange Margarita is my new addiction! My friends and I go here almost every Monday for 1/2 price sushi rolls. On Thursday the Mizu Marg is only $2. !!!!! The person who posted that the sushi rolls are not truly Japanese is truly misinformed. I went to Japan last summer and there are NO SUSHI ROLLS in Japan. Those are a California invention...but how glad I am for that! ;-)

I went to mizu tonite 1-04-06. and had a blast, the food was wonderful and the staff was awesome. The owner was cute and the sushi chef was very funny. I give it a 10 and, I give the owner a 11.

I agree, food very good at mizu and ambiance is comfortable and unpretentious. good place for a relax. Great place for watching the big game on last weekend .but the owner could use the hair cut and you know something like a nice shirt with no words and maybe a collar and some color and tucked in, mabey he could iron it. everyone else looks so nice. i like yakuza elvis cutting fish. he makes me smile. mizu is my oasis in the hills. love bruce

I checked out Mizu last week. Nice place, nice people, above-average presentation of sushi dishes...but the quality wasn't there. Virtually all of the fish tasted flat and the rice was a little bland also, which was surprising given the upper-tier prices and everything else making a favorable impression. I'm not quite sure what to make of it and since Lakeway is way out there for my standards, I probably won't return.
