Here goes...this is just an attempt to really try a variety of different sushi.. But I have my favs and just want to challenge everyone to try my favs and I'll try their favs, and I'll be honest about what I think...I just want to try different sushi places, and I want other people to try what I think is amazing sushi...
So who's up for it...?

I challenge all of you. Heres my first and favorite Roll ever from all over el paso and austin...I challenge everyone to try the "Dances with salmon" roll @ Midori on 183 and Anderson whos got a favorite roll they want to put up against the "Dances with salmon"? I'll try yours you try mine...I haven't found a roll out here yet that can beat that one.

Once again if i try a roll thats better than midori's I'll admit defeat.. we'll even start a poll or something... anyways.. so whos got a roll?? it doesnt have to be a roll but i thought that would keep it fair...

I look forward to trying your "dances with slamon" at Midori. I urge you, and everyone else on this forum, to try the Spicy Susan roll at Sushi Sake. This is my favorite roll at my favorite Austin restaurant.

I will have to second Dartdata's suggested for you to try Sushi Sake's Spicy Susan. It is my absolute favorite and I have yet to find a roll that is any better!

Also at Sushi Sake besides the infamous Spicy Susan they have a Spicy Carlos that totally rocks!

I used to live right by Midori, and was excited to try them since they were so close to home. It was awful! Maybe they've gotten better, but I had terrible service, and the rice tasted like Uncle Ben's. Personally, I love the volcano over at Origami. That's my current favorite place to go. Trouble is, I'm down in south Austin now, so it's not very convenient. If I'm up north and hungry, I'll give Dances with Salmon a try, but I'm highly skeptical.

I just tried Midori last week, for the first time. Their sushi was very good. I particularly liked the Phoenix Roll. I'll give the "Dances with salmon" roll a try next time.

Well, I haven't been to Midori in ages, but I'll give it a shot. Some friends and I decided to start a little sushi group, and we go out once a month and try a new place. We've been to: 1-Musashino 2-Beluga 3- Tomo 3- Maki Toki 4- Mikado 5- Hayashi (Most of us live North, so we haven't ventured too far yet!) So far, Beluga (in Round Rock) is in the lead for our favorite. If you haven't been there, go try the Ahi Tower- it's the most amazing sushi dish I've ever had! They also have a roll called the Sanchez and it's delicious. I've eaten at Sushi Sake several times, and I'll agree that the Spicy Susan it really good, but the manager there recently upset me and I'm not sure I'll return. (and it takes a lot to upset me) I'll will keep you all posted on our journey!

i've been eating sushi in austin for about a year now, but havent expanded too much beyond UCHI, KENICHI, MIKADO, MIDORI, SUSHI SAKE, and TOMO. favorites are, so far: 1. TOMO 2. UCHI 3. KENICHI 4. MIDORI the sushi at SUSHI SAKE has never really impressed me. the spicey susan, which some people rave about, is fairly tasty, but i cant stand the texture. every time i've had one it's felt like a mouthful of porridge. MIKADO is good, but the sushi isn't as fresh and creative as TOMO or UCHI. i love KENICHI's atmosphere, and location. favorite dishes (and MUST haves) are: 1. kiyomi, KENICHI 2. shag roll, UCHI 3. red snapper sashimi with lemon sauce, TOMO 4. yellow tail collar, KENICHI 5. screaming orgasm, TOMO i've heard GREAT things about MUSASHINO, and can't wait to check it out. those are my 2 cents!

bout to run out and try the dances with salmon. if midori's open on sunday, that is. otherwise gonna have to wait til tomorrow. BUT, a roll that kicks some serious sushi ass is a roll from KENICHI, not on the menu. ANDY doesnt work there anymore, but if you ask for "ANDY's SPECIAL ROLL," and describe it (the spicey tempura roll with yellow tail, soy based cream cheese, scallions, and topiko), then they should be able to whip it up no problem. this roll DOMINATES. so there's MY ROLL!!! let the games begin. oh, and no need to bother with the spicey susan. bleh ;-)
