cedar park?

Body:

I love sushi and moved to Austin with my fiance last March. Since then, we've eaten at many of the local sushi restaurants, including Musashino, Uchi, Kenichi, Mikado, Fujiyama, Kyoto (on Congress), etc. However, we live in Cedar Park, a few minutes from Lakeline Mall, and haven't found any decent sushi places around us. We can always make the 25 minute haul down Mopac to Musashino, but does anyone have consistent recommendations for good sushi in the Cedar Park area?

I think they have been changed a lot because their ownership has been changed. Osaka is much better than kobe or midori, i think. They have their sushi roll pictures outside. You can go, and check them out.

If you are by Lakeline you are only 10-15 minutes from the 360/183 intersection. Sushi Sake is behind Manny Hatten's close to Crate & Barrel. Their infamous Spicy Susan roll is to die for. Their nigiri selecctions on the blackboard by the sushi bar are always the freshest I can find in town.

Awesome new sushi restaurant just opened up in Cedar Park! Open really late; amazing food...even better happy hour...kinda a steal on drinks half off all liquor, wine, sake, anything and they have a reverse happy hour too. Doesn't only apply to drinks, certain food items too...open until 2 a.m.! I'm so excited and thought I would spread the word. time to wake up cedar park...

Up until last May, I lived right in the area you describe. I think I tried all the places in the immediate area, but was disappointed by them all. The best place, I think, is Origami over in Round Rock. It's a really fast drive down 620, and I've loved it every time I've been. It's at the intersection of 620 and 35. If you're going east on 620, it'll be on your right side before you cross 35. Turn into the shopping center there, and you'll see it.

4101 W. Parmer Lane I've worked in the sushi industry for years so I can tell what's fresh or not. Tomo is one of my favorite spots. Don't let the shopping center location fool you; this small restaurant is owned by a sushi chef who practiced in Las Vegas under the famous Nobu. Although their rolls are a bit heavy for my taste, their fish is incredibly fresh and very reasonably priced. I prefer sashimi dishes and Tomo never fails to offer wonderful speciality items like live octopus, ankimo, orange clam, hamachi kama, whole aji, lobster sashimi, etc. etc. I hardly ever order off the menu because Tomo offers so many new things to try. I simply love this place. A word of warning, however--this is not a kid friendly place. At dinner, the music is very modern and the staff likes to drink. ;) Good times.

I just wanted to add: I've been to Sushi Sake at the Gateway Center, and it was OK. Fujiyama at Arboretum was actually somewhat disappointing when we went - the rolls were falling apart and the fish was only so-so. Osaka was also not really as good as I had hoped. I think those are about the closest three to me, and all are along 183. I guess I'm hoping there is some less well-known, out-of-the-way place near me with exceptional sushi... it's a long shot, but worth asking about. :)

Not sure if you consider the intersection of Parmer and MoPac to be North enough for your convenience but you can hop on Parmer from 620 and go down to MoPac where you'll find Odaku Sushi (tucked back into the corner of a red brick shopping center, to the left of the HEB, to the right of the Subway). I discovered Odaku several years ago (before the very nice renovations were done) and have never been disappointed in any respect. The food and service are both fantastic. The miso soup is wonderful (and I don't really like miso). The sashimi has always been great and the rice is always just right (not many places can say that). Highly recommended and not as far away as it might sound at first.

Midori next to the Albertsons at 183 and Anderson Mill is good for the money, especially at lunch

Just ate at Midori the other evening. It's quite good; I had no complaints except that the tempura ice cream wasn't quite to my taste-liking. The phoenix roll and spicy tuna roll were both very good, and the salmon and hamachi nigiri was tasty.
